Touring Indigenous art exhibition opens at Pinnacles Gallery

Collaborative exhibition In Cahoots will bring art created in the spirit of cross-cultural collaboration to Pinnacles Gallery from next week.
In Cahoots has been touring the country for almost two years with artworks focusing on how to explore, experiment, learn and share across cultures.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the exhibition was going to showcase the depth of each artist’s personal and cultural background.
“Here in Townsville, we have strong ties to our Frist Nations people. We really want to honour their history, and we hope that by bringing In Cahoots to our Pinnacles Gallery, we can help celebrate some of our country’s rich First Nations history,” Cr Greaney said.
“Artwork of this calibre is beyond creating something beautiful to the eye. It is a form of historical intimacy that not only educates, but also captivates audiences.”
The exhibition is a result of six residencies with remote and regional Aboriginal Arts Centres, undertaken by independent Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists from across Australia, and presented by Fremantle Art Centre.
The In Cahoots launch will be held Friday 20 August from 6pm to 8pm at the Pinnacle Gallery in the Riverway Arts Centre. Visit What's On Townsville for more information.
There will also be a clay coolamons workshop run by artists, where participants will learn how to shape their own coolamon and decorate with ochre, held from 11:15am to 12:45pm on Saturday 21 August.
