Statement by Cr Jenny Hill, Mayor of Townsville

Like many in the Townsville community, I was saddened to learn of the tragic death of two serving Australian Defence Force personnel at Dotswood yesterday.
Townsville is a proud garrison city and I want to extend my condolences, and the condolences of the City of Townsville, to the family and friends of the deceased as well as their Army colleagues and the wider ADF.
Yesterday’s incident is a devastating reminder that our defence force personnel put their lives on the line to defend our country, whether they are deployed in active combat or engaged in training exercises at home.
I’m sure this accident will resonate throughout our community and that many will be thinking of those soldiers, their families, and their friends as they are reminded of their loved ones who are also serving in the Defence Force.
