Get into the Christmas spirit early with Festive Flag Competition
Date published: 18 August 2021
One, two, tree, calling all junior artists. Are you ready to sleigh this year’s Festive Flag Competition?
Twenty young talented artists will have their flags on display as part of our Christmas Together celebrations, igniting Christmas cheer across the city.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said this competition was always a crowd favourite amongst Townsville’s younger community.
“This year’s theme is Aussie Christmas, and we know there will be a lot of excellent designs that are submitted. We want this to be a fun way to celebrate the end of a big year,” Cr Greaney said.
“Last year, we had a great response from the school students who participated, and we loved seeing all their vibrant and unique twists on Christmas art.
“The top 20 designs will be presented with corflutes of their design and a certificate signed by the Mayor.
“The designs will also go into the running to be on the front of this year’s Council Christmas cards. The number one design will also be used on the back cover of Live. Explore. Grow. Christmas edition.”
Cr Greaney said this competition is not just for individual artists.
“We want to see schools get involved as well,” she said.
“This is a great way for the whole classroom to come together and start feeling Christmas cheer a little earlier, so crack out those colouring pencils so your design can go into the running.”
Yule not want to miss this one. Competition opens 17 August and closes 14 September 2021.
