Townsville Art Awards back at Perc Tucker for 65th anniversary
Date published: 24 September 2020
Celebrate the 65th Townsville Art Awards at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery when the exhibition opens this week.
For more than six decades, long-standing and new and emerging artists have entered the Townsville Art Awards. This year’s awards will be conferred in four categories: canvas work, work on paper, 3D artwork and miniatures.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the calibre of work entered into the Awards demonstrated just how impressive and exciting Townsville’s arts community was.
“We have a wealth of artistic talent in our city and the Townsville Art Awards are proof of that,” Cr Greaney said.
“This year’s judge Roland Nancarrow has a long history of exhibiting beautiful work and I’m sure he’ll have a challenge ahead of him when he decides the Townsville Art Awards winners across this year’s categories.”
Cr Greaney said the next few weeks were a great time to visit Townsville.
“We have so much exhibited as part of the North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA) COVID,” she said.
“Work is a Healer by Shireen Malamoo at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, Final Curtain by Marion Gaemers and Lynette Griffiths at Umbrella Studio and Compact Prints International Print Exhibition and Exchange at Umbrella Studio are all exceptional exhibitions that shouldn’t be missed.”
The 65th Townsville Art Awards exhibition opens on Friday, 25 September at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery. Entry is free.
