Riverway Skate Park transforms as part of NAFA COVID Safe

The Riverway Skate Park has had a massive makeover thanks to Townsville Street artists Nicky Bidju Pryor, Jon Electros Avocado and Ian Kaddy, but they need your help to complete the artwork.
Saturday’s Connect. Create. Skate workshop will help teach budding artists spray painting and stencil techniques while finishing the skatepark’s transformation.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said this was another great hands-on activity being delivered as part of NAFA COVID Safe.
“Riverway Skate Park is a hugely popular spot for skaters and freestyle scooter riders, but it’s also a work of art in itself. It’s great that three of the city’s best street artists have been able to lend a hand to help update the artwork at the skatepark,” Cr Greaney said.
“I’d really encourage anyone interested in street art to get down to the Connect. Create. Skate workshop from midday on Saturday, or for the official launch which kicks off at 4:30pm the same day.”
Cr Greaney said NAFA COVID Safe had an excellent run during the last month.
“I’m very proud of the efforts of Council’s NAFA team, as well as the artists who have pulled together to make NAFA COVID Safe happen for our community this year,” she said.
“NAFA COVID Safe has spanned from the city into the suburbs and has featured some excellent performances and works of art. Kudos to everyone who helped make it happen.”
The Connect. Create. Skate workshop will be held from midday to 3:30pm at Riverway Skate Park this Saturday.
The official launch of the new artwork will start at 4:30pm and run until 6:30pm.
