Free dump weekend is back
Date published: 9 October 2020
There is no better time to clean up the yard and prepare for storm season than now with free dump days just around the corner.
From 23 to 26 October, Townsville City Council’s waste facilities will be open for free during their normal opening hours so residents can declutter and clear their yards.
Townsville Water and Waste Committee chairperson Russ Cook said the free dump weekend will be four days to minimise waiting times at the waste facilities.
“Previous free dump weekends have been incredibly popular with long lines at our various facilities, so this year we're continuing with making it a 4-day offering,” Cr Cook said.
“This will give residents more opportunities to get into our waste facilities for free and encourage as many people as possible to begin their preparations for the upcoming wet season.”
Cr Cook also reminded residents that recyclables and green waste are free to take to the waste facilities year-round.
“For those that can’t make it to the dump over the free period, Council still offers free recycling and green waste disposal all year,” he said.
“Our kerbside collection is also on now with every household able to book the service once a year.
“These are perfect for anyone hoping to avoid any queues but still get the house and yard clean-up done before the wet settles in.”
