Businesses invited to rent historical Townsville building

Businesses now have the opportunity to rent one of Townsville’s most beautiful heritage buildings.
Tumbetin Lodge is nestled in the Palmetum and was the home of the Tumbetin Tearooms for nine years, until The Good Shepherd Home withdrew from the space earlier this year.
Now Townsville City Council is looking for a new tenant to make use of the unique space.
Acting Mayor Mark Molachino said Council was calling for expressions of interest following its latest meeting.
“Council wants to cast a wide net across the community so that we can find the best tenant and use for the space possible,” Cr Molachino said.
“The lodge has previously been used as a tearoom, but that doesn’t mean Council is only interested in hearing from hospitality businesses. There is potential here for a variety of business types, so feel free to think outside the box.”
Division six representative Councillor Suzy Batkovic said the Tumbetin Lodge was a great spot for potential tenants to consider.
“Tumbetin Lodge is positioned well for businesses. It’s bordered by the popular Palmetum on one side and The Good Shepherd Home on the other side,” Cr Batkovic said.
“I can’t wait to see which businesses consider setting up shop at the Tumbetin Lodge.”
The Tumbetin Lodge was built in Railway Estate and was used as the St Francis Xavier School before being relocated to the Palmetum in 1993.
