Festive flags fly across Townsville to mark the start of Christmas

Twenty talented artists will have their Christmas-themed artworks displayed on festive flags across Townsville.
The winners were announced this week and presented with keepsakes of their works of art.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said this year’s entries looked spectacular.
“Our winning festive flag artists have gone above and beyond with their designs. The calibre of this year’s entries made it very difficult for the councillors to vote for the winners,” Cr Hill said.
“Our shortlisted entries were voted on by the public to become Council Christmas cards, and the 10 winners are absolutely wonderful.”
Cr Hill said the flags were now adorning the city to help spread Christmas cheer.
“Christmas is a great reason to get your friends and family together and into the city to celebrate the end of a big year,” she said.
“This year, Christmas in the city looks a little bit different, with the brand new Northern Lights Trail on show.
“The trail takes you from one side of the river right across Victoria Bridge and into Flinders St, where you can enjoy a variety of beautiful Christmas lights, screened performances, markets, and more.”
