Residents asked to showcase Townsville’s hidden gems

Intrastate travel is back on the cards and residents are being encouraged to explore the region and showcase their favourite local gems to visitors of North Queensland.
Townsville City Council is asking locals to create short videos showing off the local favourites and to go in the running to win a $500 staycation at a local hotel or a $100 gift card to spend with local businesses.
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said it’s the perfect time to explore our own backyard and support local.
“We live in such a beautiful part of the world and winter is the perfect time to get out and about and explore everything just beyond your doorstep,” Cr Greaney said.
“Our local businesses have had a tough time with the COVID-19 restrictions and now that they are easing, Council wants to encourage residents to support local and share their favourite activities with the community.
“The prize for the competition will also be supporting our local economy – each prize can only be spent locally – and there are eleven chances to win.”
Cr Greaney said she is excited to see the videos created by residents to showcase Townsville.
“We have an incredibly passionate and creative community and I can’t wait to see the videos entered into this competition,” she said.
“This is a perfect way to show off your favourite swimming spot, the quaintest cafés or friendliest shops in town and encourage people to support our local businesses.
“Entries are open from now until 31 July and I’m looking forward to finding some of my next weekend activities from what is submitted.”
