More visitors welcome at libraries, gallery

The number of patrons allowed in Townsville’s CityLibraries and the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery will increase this week thanks to the further easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the increase in the number of patrons allowed to visit the libraries and gallery was great news for the community.
“CityLibraries and the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery were closed in late March in line with State Government restrictions to slow the spread of Coronavirus,” Cr Hill said.
“As these restrictions have been gradually eased, both have been able to re-open, however there have been limitations on the number of visitors who could attend at any one time.
“From today (7 July) a maximum of 100 members of the community will be able to access our libraries and from Friday (10 July) 100 people will be able to visit Perc Tucker.
“Bookings will no longer be required to attend either facility and time limits on visits will also be removed.”
In line with the directive from the Department of Health, visitors to CityLibraries and Perc Tucker Gallery will be required to record their name, email address and phone number to assist with contact tracing if required.
Cr Hill said the easing of restrictions was the perfect excuse for Townsville residents to refamiliarise themselves with their libraries and gallery.
“The Townsville community is so lucky to have its three libraries – Aitkenvale, Flinders Street and Thuringowa Central – and the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery to visit and enjoy,” she said.
“Being the second week of the school holidays, this week is the ideal time to get back into the libraries and experience everything they have to offer.
“At the gallery, our wonderful Percivals exhibition is due to wrap up in the next two weeks and I would strongly encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to pop in soon.”
