Committee recommends new CityLibraries Strategy

A place for everyone, fostering creativity and supporting economic activation are the key themes of the new 2020-2024 Townsville CityLibraries Strategic Plan.
The plan was presented at Townsville City Council’s Community and Cultural Development meeting today and provides direction for the libraries throughout the next four years.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said libraries are a valuable community hub that allows all residents a space to find empowerment and opportunities for personal growth.
“Our CityLibraries have a history that spans over 80 years, and they have become so much more than just a space to find books – they are a place where people can learn, engage and participate with global information and trends,” Cr Hill said.
“This strategic plan will ensure our libraries can continue to provide services that stay up-to-date with the latest innovations in technology and a safe space for the community to learn and grow.”
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said community consultation through a Love Our Libraries survey had played a significant role in the development of the plan.
“More than 1,000 people took part in the Love Our Libraries Survey and this was key to developing this strategy,” Cr Greaney said.
“The results of the survey showed that exploring ways to expand our online offerings and changing the way we deliver our programs and services will see our libraries reach more residents.
“All of this information has informed the goals and objectives included in the strategy and I’m really looking forward to seeing the libraries adapt throughout the implementation of this plan.”
The CityLibraries Strategy will now go to the Full Council for endorsement on Tuesday 28 July.
