Mosquito treatments underway across the city
Date published: 23 January 2020
Townsville City Council has begun ground treatments in mosquito prone areas of the city following the rainfall received over the past few days.
Routine monitoring of known mosquito breeding sites has shown an increase in larvae hatchings.
Council crews will continue to treat mosquito hotspots – in particular the North Ward, Pallarenda and Northern Beaches suburbs – into tomorrow and the weekend if necessary.
An aerial treatment of Town Common, Saunders Beach, Toolakea, Stuart, Cape Cleveland and through to Cungulla is also scheduled for tomorrow – weather permitting.
Residents are encouraged to protect themselves from mosquito bites by wearing long clothing, using repellent and emptying any pooled water in their yards.
