Update #2: All Townsville (including Magnetic Island) restricted to emergency water use only
Date published: 11 December 2020
UPDATE #2 (2200hrs 11 December)
Townsville and Magnetic Island residents and business owners will need to continue restricting water consumption to emergency use only (drinking water and toilets) during Saturday as Council works to repair a ruptured pipe which supplies the Douglas Water Treatment Plant and bring the city’s water network back to full capacity.
Council staff have identified the ruptured section of pipe and will work through the night to replace it. An update on this work will be provided to the community around 8.30am tomorrow morning.
Extra pumps will be brought online to bring the water network back to full pressure as soon as possible. However, this will take time.
Residential and commercial water consumers will not immediately notice a decrease in water pressure. However, water reserves are being depleted and pressure will be degraded if water usage is not restricted to emergency use only.
Businesses are encouraged to do everything they can to reduce water consumption.
Council will continue to update the community as more information becomes available.
