More than 2000 residents booked for kerbside collection in first week

More than 2,000 residents have booked in for Townsville City Council’s new kerbside collection system since its launch last week.
Council will begin collecting the kerbside rubbish from residents who have booked from September 1.
Water and Waste Committee chairperson Russ Cook said the number of bookings in the first week were a good indicator that this new system will be popular among residents.
“In the week since our new booking system for kerbside rolled out, we’ve had 2,062 residents book a day for their kerbside rubbish to be collected,” Cr Cook said.
“COVID-19 delayed the roll-out of the kerbside collection for 2020, but it also gave us a chance to redesign the system to address concerns residents had raised during previous years.
“The biggest concern residents had was that people were leaving hard waste on their kerb well before scheduled collection dates. The new process means people will know the exact day their rubbish needs to be put out.
“Residents will be eligible to book the service once a year and this booking system means they can do it when they have items they need to get rid of, rather than a suburb by suburb system which may have seen them miss out on accessing the service if the timing didn’t suit them.”
