Townsville’s dog parks set to reopen this weekend

Townsville’s furriest residents can rejoice with dog parks reopening to the public this weekend.
The move follows the Queensland Government’s easing of some of the COVID-19 restrictions announced earlier in the week.
Townsville Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Mayor Jenny Hill said it would be welcome news for frequent users of the parks who could see long lost pooch friends reunite after weeks apart.
“Our dog parks are a very popular place for residents to take their furry friends for a run and some exercise, so we are thrilled to be reopening them from Saturday,” Cr Hill said.
“The community has done a fantastic job at meeting the current restrictions, but we really need this to continue happening so we don’t see a resurgence in the virus.”
Cr Hill said it is still crucial for residents to abide by social distancing requirements.
“This means that while you can take your dog to the dog park, you should still be maintaining a 1.5m distance from other people and continuing with enhanced hygiene practices.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during the pandemic as all levels of government do their part in protecting the community.”
