Ross River to be re-opened to motorised boats

Townsville City Council will re-open Ross River to motorised watercraft from Saturday 2 May 2020.
The move is in-line with the easing of some COVID-19 restrictions announced by the Queensland Government earlier this week.
Mayor Jenny Hill said it was essential that the community continued social distancing and enhanced hygiene practices.
“The Townsville community has put in a fantastic effort responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we cannot afford to be complacent,” Cr Hill said.
“From Saturday, residents will be able to get back on to Ross River in their boats, provided social distancing and hygiene are maintained, it’s within 50 kilometres of their home and outings are limited to members of the same household or an individual and one friend.
“I can understand peoples’ frustration that further restrictions cannot be relaxed at the moment, but I thank them for their continued patience as all levels of government work to protect them from coronavirus.”
