Water you waiting for? Learn water-saving tips for your home

Townsville City Council is embracing National Water Week with a day of discovery at Rowes Bay Open House this Saturday.
The day will help give visitors ideas on how to make their homes more water wise with simple tips and tricks.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council was committed to helping the community become more water wise.
“Council has invested heavily into water security as a priority moving into 2020, from big infrastructure projects to educating locals on how to conserve water in their homes,” Cr Hill said.
“It’s important that we all do our bit to make our city more water efficient,”
Townsville Water and Waste chairman Councillor Russ Cook said it was essential for residents to know where there could be water issues at their homes.
“Sometimes there are little things that you wouldn’t realise are wasting water in your home,” Cr Cook said.
“For example, there can be leaks around the home that can fly under the radar. There will be plenty of friendly faces at the Rowes Bay Open House who will be able to help you identify and check for leaks around your house.
“They’ll also be running Wobble Tee demonstrations to show you how you can look after your lawn using less water.”
Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said there were plenty of water-saving activities that the whole family could get hands-on with.
“There will be compost and worm farm demonstrations on the day, and Ranger Dan will also be there to show off some Townsville wildlife,” Cr Greaney said.
“There will be delicious free wood-fired pizzas and coffee on the day, just make sure to bring along your own reusable coffee cups and water bottles.”
Free kids’ activities will include free face painting and water games.
