Joe Kirwan Park is officially opening this weekend with a community fun day open to all residents.
The park underwent a major $750,000 redevelopment under the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the popular park is another example of Council delivering top-class infrastructure for the community.
“The upgrades to our public parks are a big deal for all the people who like to get out and about and enjoy our open spaces,” Cr Hill said.
“The upgrades to Joe Kirwan Park are out of this world and a great example of Council and the Queensland Government working together to deliver amazing infrastructure for the benefit of the community.”
Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said Joe Kirwan Park is another example of Works for Queensland delivering great results for Townsville.
“Works for Queensland provides great new infrastructure for the community and also boosts the economy by supporting local jobs,” he said.
“This park opening is another great outcome for the program.”
Local Councillor Russ Cook said the upgrades to Joe Kirwan Park are out of this world.
“I’m thrilled to see the upgrades to Joe Kirwan Park and I’m looking forward to residents coming along to the official opening this weekend,” Cr Cook said.
“While the upgrades have been complete for a little while, it’s really important that the community has the opportunity to come along and enjoy a family-friendly day of fun.
“Joe Kirwan Park is such a popular public space and to be able to provide a new playground, basketball courts and fitness equipment is a great outcome.”
