Final Community Council to be held in Aitkenvale this week
Date published: 19 November 2019
Townsville City Council’s Community Council meetings are wrapping up for the year with the last meeting to be held at Aitkenvale on Wednesday.
The Division 8 meeting is being held at the Aitkenvale State School from 6pm and will give residents the chance to find out what’s happening in the neighbourhood from the local councillor and Council staff.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the implementation of Community Council was a way to come to the community and meet residents in a friendly environment.
“There are so many projects and initiatives happening right around the city and these meetings allow our residents to get information they need and to ask questions in a public forum,” Cr Hill said.
“This was a commitment I made, and we have held a Community Council in every division, with Division 8 our last before the New Year.
“We introduced these meetings as a way to improve transparency and provide the community a chance to meet with us one-on-one.”
Division 8 Councillor Maurie Soars said he is looking forward to meeting with residents and talking about projects happening in the area.
“This is a great opportunity for our community to come together and to meet with Council staff and the Councillors and find out about our current projects,” Cr Soars said.
“There are currently some major works underway in Division 8, such as the Illich Park upgrade, and I’m looking forward to having a productive conversation with residents.
“This is another chance for residents to provide feedback to their elected representative in a family friendly setting and I hope to see plenty of people there.”
