Townsville City Council is partnering with Birdlife Townsville to plant over 100 trees at Townsville Grammar School.
The Birds in Schools program has been created to encourage native birds to visit the area and teach children about the importance of planting native trees.
Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said this program is a great way to teach students about Townsville wildlife.
“Year 5 students at Townsville Grammar School are going to be planting over 100 native trees suitable for Townsville’s climate in the school yards,” Cr Greaney said.
“This is a wonderful initiative from BirdLife Australia and Council is thrilled to facilitate it for them.
“This provides a fantastic outdoor learning opportunity for students to learn about the importance of native trees and wildlife.”
