The search is on for artists to participate in the Northern Fringe

Calling all artists, musicians, comedians, dancers and performers of any kind – Townsville City Council wants you to register to be a part of our inaugural Fringe Festival, the Northern Fringe.

Running alongside the North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA), the Northern Fringe Festival will be curated entirely by the public.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the Northern Fringe Festival will showcase the incredible talent from the region.

“North Australia has an incredible amount of talent and we want to give everyone the best chance to get involved with the festival,” Cr Doyle said.

“Council held an information night last week, it was a huge success and it’s exciting to see how many people are embracing the Northern Fringe Festival.

“There is no limit – as long as it’s legal – to what can be a part of our Fringe Festival, so it really is curated by the community.”

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said it has been fantastic to see the community getting involved with NAFA and the Northern Fringe Festival.

“Holding an annual festival was one of our election commitments so it’s great to see so many people getting on board with it,” Cr Hill said.

“Townsville is the arts and culture capital in North Australia so it’s really exciting to see how this event will grow into the future.”
