Excitement is building for the first ever Townsville Eats event being held in the CBD tomorrow night.
The Townsville City Council event kicks off at 5pm on Flinders Street and will include a variety of food stalls, live music and entertainment and an open-air cinema.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said this is the first Townsville Eats events and Council is planning on bringing it back in the last week of each month.
“Council has been looking for a way to improve the liveliness in the CBD and a reoccurring event like this is a great way to do this,” Cr Hill said.
“Food and entertainment are always a drawcard for residents and visitors and it’s also a great way to support local businesses and boost our economy.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the turnout for the night especially as the community has been so supportive of the idea.”
Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said several local businesses have joined in and are participating in the first event.
“So far, we’ve seen a great response from local businesses and the public supporting Townsville Eats,” Cr Greaney said.
“In addition to pop-up markets, shops in the CBD will be trading later and enjoying the benefits of the extra traffic into the city centre.
“Council has organised a Park n Ride from Dean Street carpark to Stanley Street that will run on a continuous loop from 4pm until 12am to assist with parking and getting to and from the event.”
