Riverway restoration underway

Townsville City Council is advising residents that work has begun to repair damage at the Riverway Lagoons and Arts Centre.
Council expects the facility will be open by the end of July. However, the works schedule is dependent on the weather and outcome of further damage assessments.
Infrastructure Services Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said tradespeople are working at the site.
“Hutchison Builders have been appointed to complete restoration works on the buildings and lagoons,” Cr Molachino said.
“Restoration work has begun with damage assessments ongoing.”
Local Councillor Verena Coombe has thanked residents for their patience.
“There was significant building and electrical damage and workers will refurbish the lagoons and the arts centre as quickly as they can,” Cr Coombe said.
Cr Coombe has urged residents to make the most of Council’s other pools.
“The lagoon is unavailable for now but people shouldn’t forget they have a lot of options across the city,” Cr Coombe said.
“Kokoda, Long Tan, Tobruk and Northern Beaches Leisure Centre pools and the Rockpool are open for families and keen swimmers.
“We know people love Riverway and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
