Residents invited to free Mount Louisa Community Information Breakfast
Date published: 30 March 2019
Townsville City Council is holding a Community Information Breakfast for the Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan at High Vista Park this Sunday.
The event will be held from 8 am to 10 am with a free breakfast barbecue and kids activities. Residents will able to talk to their local Councillors and Council representatives about the Masterplan.
The Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan was released earlier this month and aims to transform Mount Louisa into an activity and recreation hub.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the Mount Louisa project is a key pillar for Council’s Townsville 2020 masterplan.
“Townsville 2020 provides a clear vision for the future of our city and Council is committed to improving Mount Louisa as a premier public space,” Cr Hill said.
“As part of this process we are engaging with the community to ensure they have the chance to learn all about our plan and give us feedback.
“I’d encourage residents from the area to come along, have a chat to their local Councillor or to a Council representative for the project.”
Division 1 Councillor Margie Ryder said the proposed enhancements to Mount Louisa will be great for locals.
“These enhancements are a brilliant way to encourage residents to get active and visit one of our untapped and beautiful landscapes,” Cr Ryder said.
Division 5 Councillor Russ Cook said the project is a great way to provide world-class experiences to locals and visitors alike.
“The new infrastructure and tracks proposed for Mount Louisa are a great way to get people out into the suburbs and cater for locals wanting to lead a healthy and active lifestyle,” Cr Cook said.
Division 7 Councillor Kurt Rehbein said Mount Louisa has fantastic potential to become a popular destination and ease some of the pressure on Castle Hill.
“The facilities on Castle Hill are very popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and tourists – I have no doubt similar enhancements to Mount Louisa will draw people to the suburbs.”
Division 8 Councillor Maurie Soars said the construction of a viewing platform would provide amazing views of Townsville.
“Sports and recreation activities are the focus of the plan for Mount Louisa – part of this includes being able to make it to the top and take in the incredible views of the city.”
