Council provides further assistance to ratepayers directly impacted by the unprecedented monsoon

Ratepayers directly affected by the unprecedented monsoon may be eligible for a rebate for excess water costs incurred by washing out flood-damaged buildings.
Eligible ratepayers will be able to apply to receive a rebate of up to 25 per cent of any volumetric water charges for the billing period covering the unprecedented monsoon.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council understood many ratepayers directly impacted by the unprecedented monsoon were doing it tough.
“A lot of property owners had to deal with a big clean up and obviously many people would have used high pressures hoses and gurneys,” Cr Hill said.
“This rebate of up to 25 per cent for eligible ratepayers on their volumetric water charge will help ease the financial burden of the clean up.”
Governance and Finance Committee Chair Cr Verena Coombe said the water rebate for eligible ratepayers was on top of the extension to the rates due date for property owners directly impacted by the unprecedented monsoon.
“The new due date for those ratepayers is 3 June, while all Townsville ratepayers still have until 4 April to pay their bill and still receive the on-time payment discount,” Cr Coombe said.
“Council understands that the unprecedented monsoon has hit both businesses and residents hard and we are trying to reduce the financial impact of this natural disaster on our community.”
Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook urged ratepayers directly impacted by the unprecedented monsoon to apply for the rebate.
“If you believe you may be eligible because your property suffered damage, please contact Council to find out if you are able to receive the rebate,” Cr Cook said.
