Townsville City Council is continuing to entertain residents and tourists with plans for an oversized computer games console in Flinders Square.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council wants to provide more amusement options in the CBD.
“Council is always looking for more attractions in the city and we have an idea that will appeal to a lot of people,” Cr Hill said.
“We’re putting the call out to businesses to design an oversized computer game console and we would like to see local coders putting their hands up to be involved.
“People of all ages love computer games and this concept will give adults a chance to relive their youth.
“The screen is already there and this games console will give people another entertainment option in Flinders Square.
“A lot of parents find it hard to get their kids away from their smartphones and computers – this installation will make the city more attractive for children and adults.
Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said tourists will have fond memories of their visit to Flinders Square.
“An oversized console will create a unique gaming experience and give residents and tourists a memorable visit to the CBD,” Cr Greaney said.
“These consoles have been very popular in other cities and I’m sure computer game players and spectators will enjoy this console in Flinders Square.”
Council has issued a request for quotes and the process closes on 31 July.
