Furry friends find fur-ever families

Almost 30 pets are settling into their fur-ever homes after another successful Open Day at Townsville City Council’s Animal Shelter.
Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said 29 pets were adopted on the weekend.
“10 dogs and 10 cats were adopted on Saturday and animal lovers took home 6 cats and 3 dogs on Sunday,” Cr Greaney said.
“The open days have been a great success for Council – it is always our goal to find long-term homes for our animals.
“It was great to see so many Townsville families heading to the Shelter across the weekend.”
Cr Greaney said Council staff work hard to prepare cats and dogs for their new homes.
“There is a lot of work behind the scenes to get our animals ready for adoption,” Cr Greaney said.
“All our dogs and cats are registered or approved, vaccinated, desexed and microchipped.
“We’re hoping people that went to the Shelter and didn’t adopt a pet on the weekend will come back and take home a dog or cat in the future.”
The shelter is open from Monday to Saturday for adoptions.
