Council supporting Indigenous businesses

Townsville City Council is holding an Indigenous Business Fair at Townsville Stadium today.
The two-day program will provide information on tendering opportunities and networking for Indigenous businesses.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the Indigenous Business Fair will help create jobs for the Indigenous community.
“At Council we want to contribute to closing the gap and creating equal opportunities for all community members,” Cr Hill said.
“This is reflected in our Reconciliation Action Plan and reflected in our commitment to supporting local businesses through initiatives like the Indigenous Business Fair.
“Tendering for contracts and networking opportunities are crucial for the growth of any small business and we want everyone to have the best chance to secure work – both with Council and with external projects.”
Governance and Finance Committee Chair Cr Verena Coombe said it is important to support our Indigenous local businesses and community.
“Our local businesses are the life of Townsville and Council is constantly looking for ways to support them,” Cr Coombe said.
“This Indigenous Business Fair will provide Indigenous businesses the knowledge needed to tender for contracts and network with other businesses in a positive and professional environment.
“Council believes in building opportunities and we are constantly striving for this through our diversity in employment and encouraging Indigenous and small businesses to tender for Council contracts.”
Council would like to thank our partners in delivering this event including Evolve FM, JLL, Broadspectrum, the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments and Indigenous Business Australia.
