Another 20 jobs flowing from Townsville’s water pipeline project

Townsville’s new water pipeline project has generated another 20 direct and indirect jobs as Iplex reopens its pipe manufacturing plant in Townsville.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill toured the Bohle facility and said she was proud to be delivering more jobs for the city.
“As a result of Iplex being selected to provide the 1.8-metre diameter pipe for the pipeline, the company has now recommenced manufacturing another type of product here in Townsville,” Cr Hill said.
Following Iplex being selected to provide the 1.8 metre diameter GRP pipe for the pipeline, the company sees further opportunity to invest in and supply the region, and as a result have taken the decision to commence local manufacturing to supply other products here in Townsville,” Cr Hill said.
“These pipes will be made right here in Townsville and can be used in building and infrastructure projects right across the country.
“Council is committed to delivering crucial infrastructure projects that create local jobs and boost our economy.”
Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said delivering the pipeline project is still Council’s top infrastructure priority.
“This is one of Townsville’s biggest ever infrastructure projects and is securing the city’s future water supply while having positive flow on effects for our economy,” Cr Cook said.
“The pipeline project is crucial for providing Townsville’s long-term water security and cater for our growing population.”
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said it was fantastic to see the flow-on employment benefits of the pipeline duplication project.
“The Queensland Government has invested $225 million to improve water security in Townsville,” he said.
“But just as significantly, we’ve invested in job-creating infrastructure, with new jobs created right here at Iplex and many more flow on-jobs for advanced manufacturers throughout the region.”
Iplex Pipelines and Rocla Pipelines General Manager Nicole Sumich said Iplex is firmly committed to partnering with Council and helping to guarantee Townsville’s future water security.
“Our work on the Haughton Project has been a huge success and we are well placed and ready to move into the next stage of the project,” she said.
“In reopening our PE plant in Bohle, we are leaving an ongoing legacy for the Townsville community through the creation of employment and training opportunities as well as further demonstrating our commitment to the North Queensland region.”
