Animals on show at bigger Townsville Pet Expo
Date published: 7 June 2019
Animal lovers will have twice as many options as last year at Townsville City Council’s Pet Expo on Sunday.
The popular event has doubled in size and it will feature 25 events on two arenas at Jezzine Barracks.
Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the Expo will have some new attractions.
“The North Qld Reining and Performance Horse Club will perform on the arena for the first time and there will be free rides and farmyard animals for children to cuddle,” Cr Greaney said.
“There will be more than 60 exhibitors so Pet Expo will have something for every pet owner – we’ll have animal behaviour experts, groomers, vets and lots of other services.
“We’ll have pets available for adoption and people will be able to register their dog or obtain an approval for their cat.”
The Pet Expo will run from 8am to 1pm and it will feature popular events such as the prison dogs display, the small paws sprint, the Dachshund dash and Mr and Mrs Pet Expo.
Cr Greaney said residents can get a free dog tag and have it engraved from the Police Neighbourhood Watch van – and the police will have an important message for people who walk their dogs.
“Dog owners can play an important role in their neighbourhoods while they’re walking their dogs,” Cr Greaney.
“They can help their community by reporting any issues they see.”
Entry to the Expo is free and pets are welcome to attend if they are safe and secure.
