Glendale Drive closes for Southern corridor pipeline works
Date published: 30 July 2019
Motorists and residents are advised that Glendale Drive causeway will be closed for four weeks to allow workers to lay pipes on the Southern Suburbs Rising Main and Recycled Water Reuse Scheme.
Work on the project has been progressing in the Annandale section of the pipeline route over the past month.
Restricted access with traffic detours have also been in place around the Yolanda Drive and Cypress Drive intersection while workers lay the pipelines.
Drivers are urged to drive with care and follow the directions of traffic management workers.
The Glendale Drive closure is expected to be in place until late August.
Restricted traffic access will continue at the Cypress-Yolanda Drive intersection and approaches until resealing work has been completed over the next three weeks.
Residents, schools and the shopping centre have been notified of the changed traffic conditions.
The Southern Suburbs Rising Main and Recycled Water Reuse Scheme is more than a third completed and will support the city’s growth for the next 30 years.
Council’s Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said the construction of the pipelines was in full swing and more than a third complete.
“Crews working on the job are taking full advantage of the ideal dry conditions and making very good progress with the laying of pipelines,” Cr Cook said.
“The project is great for the economy with the 20 full-time jobs it’s creating and the long-term benefits it will provide in the city’s infrastructure to support the city’s future growth.”
The project will significantly increase the capacity of the city’s southern sewerage network and deliver high standard treated water for use by industry, and for the irrigation of parks and sporting fields.
