Insurers urged to support North Queensland after the flood

Townsville Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Jenny Hill is urging insurance companies to move quickly when processing claims lodged in the wake of the record flood.
Cr Hill said insurers will have a responsibility to get our community back on its feet after the flood.
“I urge insurers to get behind our residents and process claims without delay so that those impacted can get their lives back-on-track as soon as possible,” Cr Hill said.
“The recovery effort is going to take some time, but the job becomes that much easier when insurance companies act as responsible corporate citizens.
“Insurance companies need to ensure there are enough assessors to inspect damage properties as quickly as possible.
“Successful claims – no matter how big or small – will make an enormous difference to those involved and the wider community.”
Cr Hill said North Queenslanders would not accept being dudded with unfair premium rises after this flood.
“After we get through these floods I don’t want any price gouging of North Queensland like what happened after Cyclone Yasi,” Cr Hill said.
“The last thing our community deserves is to be hit with unfair rises in insurance premiums.”
