Townsville Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Jenny Hill has met with one of the biggest insurers in North Queensland to ensure claims are processed swiftly and fairly.
Cr Hill met with Suncorp Insurance’s Chief Executive Officer Gary Dransfield over the weekend to reinforce the importance the industry would play in the city’s recovery.
“Insurers will have a huge role to play in rebuilding our city,” Cr Hill said.
“Mr Dransfield told me that Suncorp assessors were already on the ground and more are arriving in coming days.
“It’s important that the insurance industry does the right thing and pays our claims fairly and swiftly to help flood-affected residents get back on their feet.”
Suncorp Insurance CEO Gary Dransfield said he appreciated Cr Hill taking the time to discuss their response.
“We know it’s times like this that we must be there for our customers when they need us most, which is why we have a large contingent on the ground ready to support them through their recovery,” he said.
“It’s vital that businesses, government and communities work collaboratively to help rebuild after such a devastating event and we’re committed to helping the people of Townsville get back on their feet.”
Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Deputy Mayor Les Walker said insurers needed to do the right thing by the city.
“The job to rebuild our city is going to be major and it’s crucial that residents are able to sort out their insurance matters swiftly so they can start to get on with their lives,” Cr Walker said.
“We are urging all insurers that have claims from this unprecedented flood to do the right thing by this city and their customers.”
