Santa set to “Claus” a stir at the Strand

Santa has flown his sleigh all the way to the golden sands of the Strand to meet Townsville kids this Sunday.
Townsville City Council will present Santa on the Strand from 3pm to 6pm at Picnic Bay Headland.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said this was a great chance for children to get their wishes in to Santa in time for Christmas.
“A local photographer will be able to capture the moment kids tell Santa what they want this Christmas, which is a great keepsake for parents,” Cr Hill said.
“Anyone who has a photo taken will be able to access their free photos online with an access code that they’ll be given on the day.
“Come down to Picnic Bay Headland and get a free Santa photo with the iconic backdrop of the Strand and Magnetic Island.”
But Santa isn’t the only special guest getting ready for Sunday’s event.
Cr Hill said a North Queensland Cowboys’ utility would also be hitting the beach to meet young fans.
“John Asiata is one of Townsville’s favourite sports stars, and he’s getting ready to have a chat with his fans this Sunday,” she said.
Cr Hill said it was also one of the last chances to donate to this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal.
“The Appeal helps give families who are doing it tough this festive season, so dig deep this weekend to help give the entire community a very merry Christmas,” she said.
Santa on the Strand kicks off at 3pm this Sunday, 15 December and runs until 6pm.
Photos taken at the event are free to download using a unique access code provided at the event.
