Riverway repairs make progress in time for summer holidays

The recovery of the Riverway Arts Centre and Precinct is still underway, with the changerooms and toilets set to reopen.
The lagoons were reopened with temporary facilities in September in time for the spring school holidays.
Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Les Walker said there is still a lot of work to do in the rest of the Arts Centre.
“The Riverway Arts Centre was severely damaged during the monsoon earlier this year and there is still a significant amount of work to be done,” Cr Walker said.
“Hutchinson Builders have done extensive work in the area so far and we’re hoping to provide the community with a revised timeframe for reopening the building as soon as we can.
“Council will continue to provide updates to the community on all our recovery activities as it happens, but it’s important to remember that recovery is a lengthy process.”
Division 5 councillor Russ Cook said it’s great to have the permanent changeroom facilities reopened for the summer.
“The Riverway Lagoons is a popular facility and as we come into the summer holidays it’s important that we are able to cater for the residents and visitors using the area,” Cr Cook said.
Division 7 councillor Kurt Rehbein said the changerooms and toilets are accessible to all visitors of Riverway and are disability friendly to ensure it catered for the needs of the entire community.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the lagoons get good use over the school holidays and I’m grateful for the patience of the community as we work with Hutchinson’s to complete all these works,” Cr Rehbein said.
