Free water-efficient sprinkler giveaway at Palmetum birthday bash

Date published: 21 September 2018

Townsville City Council will give away hundreds of free water-efficient sprinklers at the Palmetum’s 30th Anniversary Celebrations on Sunday.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said unfortunately our water usage has been steadily rising and we need to stick to our daily consumption targets.

“Residents did a great job conserving water during the worst drought in a generation – but we need everyone to continue playing their part to remain waterwise.” Cr Hill said.

“We need to ensure that we use water sustainably until the new pipeline is built in December 2019.

“Council is helping residents to reduce their water usage by offering hundreds of free water-efficient sprinklers at the Palmetum’s 30th Anniversary Celebrations.”

Cr Hill said the Anniversary Celebration will also provide locals with expert tips on ways to save water throughout the home.

“There will be a number of workshops on sustainable gardening and tips to keep your plants looking their best during the dry months,” Cr Hill said.

Local Councillor Verena Coombe said the Palmetum’s birthday bash will be a great family friendly event for locals.

“Not only will there be helpful tips and workshops – there will also be outdoor activities, games for the kids and music meditation,” Cr Coombe said.

“It’ll be a great day to enjoy the Palmetums unique tropical experience – with around 300 different species of palms to explore and heaps to do.”

The free fun day will run from 9am to 1pm this Sunday at the Palmetum (University Road, Douglas) and free parking will be available on Marabou Drive.
