New Recycling skips for Bluewater and Toomulla tips
Date published: 15 May 2018
Townsville City Council has added new skip bins to the Toomulla and Bluewater tips to allow local residents to recycle items such as white goods, metals, electronic waste and florescent tubes.
The new bins are part of Council’s commitment to make recycling those items quicker and easier for residents living in the Northern Suburbs.
Division 1 Councillor Margie Ryder said the new skip bins will benefit local residents because they no longer have to travel to dumps at Stuart or Hervey Range to recycle white goods or electronic waste.
“The addition of these new services at the Toomulla and Bluewater tips will save residents time and money,” Cr Ryder said.
“Residents used to have to travel about 100km for a round trip to Stuart or Hervey Range dump just to get rid of an old fridge or washing machine.
“The new skip bins will be much more convenient for locals and help keep our city clean and tidy.”
Fridges and air conditioners will be degassed prior to the metals being collected and recycled. The fluorescent light tubes are crushed and all parts of the tube recycled.
