Music in the City starts today!
Date published: 4 May 2018
Free live music will be on show for those in and around the CBD as Townsville City Council kicks off Music in the City today.
Triple J Unearthed musician Just Kirra will perform at the launch of the program today in the Perfume Gardens located at the corner of Stokes and Walker Streets.
Musicians will provide free entertainment every Friday from 12pm to 2pm throughout May and June, and audiences will have the chance to win weekly prizes with two Groovin the Moo tickets up for grabs this week.
Division 3 Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the initiative is a great way to revitalise the CBD, encourage workers to visit local businesses and spend some time outdoors.
“Music in the City provides a really great opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy the Perfume Gardens and to take some time to have lunch away from the office,” Cr Greaney said.
“It would be fantastic to see locals exploring the CBD and taking advantage of the beautiful weather and atmosphere of the gardens.
“Local businesses really benefit from this initiative and have been very supportive – we have had some generous donations for weekly prizes and it would be great to see these businesses gain new customers.”
The program for the first four weeks is below, with more artists to be announced soon:
- 4 May - Triple J Unearthed solo artist - Just Kirra
- 11 May - Solo artist - Luca Wilde
- 18 May - Triple J Unearthed duo - Chesterfield
- 25 May - Triple J Unearthed solo artist - Dan Baker
