Locals can take a step back in time at this weekend’s Townsville City Council Heritage Day.
This year’s free annual event will be held on Sunday May 20 at West End Park and is a fantastic opportunity for residents to learn about Townsville’s rich history.
A popular feature of the day is a guided tour through the West End Cemetery where participants can learn about the colorful and often tragic stories of Townsville’s founding families.
Council’s Heritage Advisory Committee Chair Councillor Kurt Rehbein said Heritage Day is a fantastic way to learn about Townsville’s past and how much our city has evolved.
“Some locals may not realise but our city has a rich history and certainly some colourful characters and stories to go along with it,” Cr Rehbein said
“I certainly encourage locals and visitors to venture down to Heritage Day to find out how Townsville has evolved into the city we all know today.
“With stalls featuring over 30 local and heritage groups, live entertainment, food stalls and a range of free activities, visiting this year’s Heritage Day is a must.”
