Get active with 30 Ways in 30 Days this April
Date published: 27 March 2018
The 30 Ways in 30 Days campaign is about to kick off to encourage residents to improve their fitness, with a full calendar of free, family friendly activities.
The annual campaign supported by Townsville City Council starts from the Easter weekend and is packed with options to get active and healthy in April.
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the 2018 program includes some new activities like the DIY Easter Egg Hunt and Commonwealth Games inclusions, and brings back crowd favourites like the Ride to Riverway event.
“This year the 30 Ways in 30 Days campaign will run at the same time as the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Festival 2018,” Cr Doyle said.
“It’s great to be able to participate in a variety of fitness activities and then go cheer on the Australian athletes in the Commonwealth Games from Jezzine Barracks or at our own Entertainment Centre.
“There really are activities to suit everyone – I’d really encourage residents to pick up the calendar and make an effort to get involved, it’s fun and great for the community.”
Councillor Maurie Soars said 30 Ways in 30 Days is the perfect opportunity to find out what type of exercise best suits you.
“There are plenty of ways to get active in Townsville, and this program gives locals the chance to try them out for free,” Cr Soars said.
“Townsville has some great facilities, like the brand new Strand fitness station and there are plenty of family friendly options available.
“I’d really like to see Townsville residents get involved and be proactive about their health.”
Activities available throughout the program include Cricket, AFL, Netball and Speedminton at Strand Park, Boxing, X-Training, Yoga, walking along Townsville’s many tracks and trails, or be challenged at home and take part in the Lounge or Cheap Tuesday Workouts.
