Work on Townsville’s street circuit revving up

Preparations to allow the Supercars to hit the streets of Townsville are gearing up.
Council crews are working to put together the street circuit by closing off roads around the Reid Park complex.
Road closures will be in place across the city for the Watpac Townsville 400 from tonight at 8pm through to 5am Tuesday, 10 July.
Boundary St, between Woolcock St and Railway Avenue, and Charters Towers Rd, between Boundary St and Ingham Rd. Detour signage will be installed around the affected roads.
Deputy Mayor Les Walker asked motorists to be patient over the next few days while preparations for North Queensland’s biggest event speed up.
“It’s the tenth year the Supercars have raced around Townsville and we’re hoping it’s going to be the biggest event yet,” Cr Walker said.
“We’re asking motorists to be patient while the road closures are in place because the benefits the Supercars bring to the city are huge.
“Council is doing everything it can to ensure this year’s Watpac Townsville 400 celebrates its anniversary in style.”
A Regulated Event Parking Area will be operating in Hyde Park, Hermit Park and Railway Estate from 7am–7pm through Friday 6 July, to Sunday 8 July. A two-hour limit will apply to any vehicle parked on the street during this time.
Residents living within the regulated area will be required to display a Resident Parking Permit.
