Breaking Mews! The animal shelter is giving locals the op-paw-tunity to cross paths with a new furry friend with all black cats and kittens to be sold for $50 between 4-7pm on Friday 13th of July.
There are about 24 cats and kittens available for adoption at the discounted price on Black Cat Friday.
Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said some people still believed black cats were bad luck but that was nothing but superstition.
“There are some lovely cats looking for their fur-ever home and Council is doing everything it can to make that happen,” Cr Greaney said.
“Unfortunately, it can be harder to re-home black cats because some people associate them with brining bad luck but we want to make sure they find the right family.
“That’s why all black cats will be on sale for just $50 on Black Cat Friday.”
Cr Greaney said adopting a pet was a responsibility for life but Council was doing its part to ensure responsible pet ownership throughout our city.
“All cats and kittens will be desexed, microchipped, vaccinated,” Cr Greaney.
“Council wants to ensure that these cats are paired with the right family because adopting a pet is a life-long responsibility.”
Black Cat Friday will be running on July 13th from 4pm to 7pm at the animal shelter – there will be other cats and kittens available at the adoption price of $90 for a cat and $170 for a kitten.
