Council monitoring recent fish deaths
Date published: 16 January 2018
Townsville City Council is investigating the death of around 80 fish in Keyatta Lake.
At this stage the cause is unknown but Council can confirm there are no harmful algae present in the lake – which is between Ingham Rd and Woolcock St.
Council environment staff are waiting on test results and monitoring of the lake will continue over coming days.
A resident alerted Council on Monday morning, and staff were immediately sent out to clean the site and test the water.
A pump has been brought in to improve water quality and expected rainfall over the coming days should help.
Fish deaths are not uncommon during summer, because high temperatures and stormwater can affect water quality.
