Open Invitation for Sunrise to broadcast and visit Townsville and Magnetic Island

Following on from Councillor Margie Ryder's interview on Sunrise on 22 February 2018, on her video on #bringbackdundee, I am pleased to extend an open invitation to you both and the whole Sunrise crew to visit Townsville and Magnetic Island. It would be a great opportunity to broadcast Sunrise and showcase what makes tropical North Queensland an amazing place to visit.
Townsville is one of the event cities for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games - hosting both men's and women's basketball games. Townsville will also host Festival 2018, a major arts and cultural event showcasing more than 660 international, national and local acts from 4 to 15 April 2018.
The showpiece of Festival 2018 will be Uncontained - a jaw-dropping art installation made from shipping containers in Strand Park - creating a space of art, entertainment, food and music. Thirty shipping containers will be placed on-site transformed into towering structures adorned with artwork by renowned international, national and local street artists. The structures combined with the spectacular natural surrounds of Strand Park with the backdrop of the Coral Sea and Magnetic Island would make an ideal broadcast location.
In addition to experiencing the magic of Festival 2018 and all it has to offer, I would be happy to show you the iconic sites in Townsville including a trip across to Magnetic Island where we can take you horse riding on the beach, jet skiing around the island to the secluded beaches for a spot of snorkelling, a visit to Stage Door - North Queensland's number one theatre restaurant, and a stay on the island watching the sunset over the beautiful Coral Sea.
Of course no visit to Townsville would be complete without a trip up iconic Castle Hill to watch the sunrise over Townsville and Magnetic Island. The final - and arguably most important stop on this trip - would be a trip to the Australian Hotel to have a beer with everyday North Queenslanders. This is of course an open invitation, but we would love to take advantage of the opportunity to showcase Townsville during Festival 2018 where Townsville will really shine.
