More than a dozen jobs will be created when Iplex resumes manufacturing at its Bohle plant, as part of the contract for Townsville’s new water pipeline.
Iplex Pipelines are looking to fill a variety of leadership and technical positions to commence work early next year.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said more than a dozen new jobs will be created when the Iplex plant in Bohle recommences manufacturing poly pipes in our city.
“Iplex will be advertising for more than a dozen job positions including team leaders, production operators and quality inspectors,” Cr Hill said.
“The Bohle site will open 24 hours, 5 days a week and importantly, these are jobs that will remain once the pipeline is complete.”
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the generation of local employment opportunities and the ongoing water security of Townsville were top priorities throughout this project.
“We are a government committed to creating employment opportunities for Queenslanders and it’s fantastic to see Townsville contracting and hiring locally for construction of the new water pipeline,” Mr Stewart said.
“It’s clear that the $225 million investment by the Palaszczuk Government is paying dividends in Townsville and is paving the way for water security for generations to come.”
Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said the new water pipeline is one of Townsville’s biggest infrastructure projects and a crucial part of Council’s 3-point water security solution.
“Council is committed to delivering the water pipeline by the end of December 2019,” Cr Cook said.
“Thankfully we have had a bit of rain recently but praying for wet weather is no strategy for long-term water security.
“The pipeline is Council’s top infrastructure priority and is needed to meet the future needs of the Townsville community.”
Council’s 3-point water security solution includes:
- The new 1.8-metre diameter pipeline
- A recycled water re-use system for public greenspaces and industrial use
- The Water Smart Package
The Queensland Government has contributed $225 million to water security in Townsville.
