Finishing touches being put on major suburban intersection upgrade

Workers are putting the finishing touches on Townsville City Council’s Dalrymple Road and Greenview Drive intersection upgrade – due to be complete by the end of this week.
The major suburban intersection upgrade includes the installation of new traffic lights, protected turning lanes, concrete medians and new bikes lanes.
Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said the upgrade – completed by local construction company Mendi Group – will improve safety for motorists and cyclists and has supported 50 local jobs.
“Council is spending an unprecedented amount in upgrading infrastructure right across the city this financial year,” Cr Molachino said.
“These local road upgrades are essential projects to improve safety, keep our city moving and create jobs for locals.
“The $5 million upgrade will allow motorists to move more safely through the intersection and improve traffic flow during peak hours, while adding new bike lanes to improve the safety of cyclists.”
Local Councillor Russ Cook said he had campaigned for the Dalrymple Road and Greenview Drive intersection upgrade to be included in this year’s Budget.
“Traffic is very heavy in this area and locals have wanted this upgrade for a number of years – and I’m proud to be part of a team of Councillors who have delivered this project,” Cr Cook said.
“After fighting for this intersection upgrade for so long it’s great to see the progress on this project.
“This was a huge project and Council and Mendi really appreciate everyone’s patience as the work was being complete.
“Motorists will definitely notice the difference when it’s open at the end of the week.”
