The winner of North Queensland’s prestigious $40,000 Percival Portrait Painting Prize 2018 has been announced as Victorian artist Jenny Rodgerson for her self-portrait balancing in the big red coat.

Townsville City Council Galleries received over 300 entries for the Percival Portrait Painting Prize 2018 exhibition, with 104 finalists on display at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Councillor Colleen Doyle said she is elated to see the exhibition continuing to grow.

“The Percival Portrait Painting Prize began in 2007 as a small competition and has since grown into a major art exhibition with hundreds of locals, national and international artists,” Cr Doyle said.

“Congratulations to Jenny Rodgerson on winning such a prestigious award, it is wonderful that Townsville locals will have the opportunity to view this exhibition over the next 11 weeks, showcasing the amazing work of both established and emerging artists.”

“This exhibition is a real credit to all those involved, from all the exhibiting artists, to the gallery staff and judges. It is fantastic to see such high calibre pieces here for all to enjoy.”
