City plans community event to welcome Cowboys home

Townsville will celebrate the triumphant return of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys on Monday 2 October with a civic reception in the CBD and street parade along the Townsville Strand.
Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said the Townsville City Council is working in partnership with the club to make the arrangements.
“Once again the Cowboys have done us proud with their courage and determination, showing everyone what it means to be a North Queenslander,” Cr Hill said.
“The council and the club want to join with the community to show our appreciation with a massive civic reception.
“Everyone is invited to come into the CBD and down to the Strand on Monday to join in the celebrations and thank the team, hopefully with the grand final trophy in their grasp.
“We are working closely with the Cowboys to put in place arrangements that will encourage maximum community involvement.
“We are also working with the CBD traders and restaurants, as well as food van operators and pop up vendors to help ensure everyone has the best time possible.
“Given Monday is a public holiday, we’re expecting a big turnout and rightly so.”
Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner says the event is about thanking the community for their support, as much as celebrating an incredibly gutsy season for the team.
“The community have been right behind us, and the team is grateful for all the support and belief that helped to take them all the way to the grand final,” Tonner said.
Everyone planning to come along is reminded to bring their hats, sunscreen and water.
Public parking will be available at the Dean Street carpark.
