The Strand Water Park opening hours will be increased.
Mayor Jenny Hill said Council had listened to community feedback and would be opening The Strand Water Park from 9am, starting on December 1.
“The Strand Water Park is hugely popular with the community and locals have made it clear they want it to open earlier,” Cr Hill said.
“Council has listened to the community and that’s why we have brought forward the opening times by one hour.
“It means mums and dads can bring their children to the Water Park earlier in the morning to beat the sun.”
The new summer opening hours will be from 9am to 8pm running through from December to March.
Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the community overwhelmingly supported opening The Strand Water Park earlier.
“We ran a poll on social media and the feedback was clear – locals want the Water Park opened earlier,” Cr Greaney said.
“The Strand Water Park is one of the most popular attractions in Townsville for young families and it is great they can get extra use out of it this summer.”
The new opening hours come after an upgrade to The Strand Water Park was completed last month.
The project included 10 new picnic settings, five new shade shelters as well as landscaping and improvements to lighting and pathways.
The works, valued at $500 000, were funded under the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland (W4Q) program.
