Pets of all shapes and sizes will flock to Jezzine Barracks this Sunday when the park plays host to council’s annual Pet Expo.
This year will see the inaugural judging of Mr and Miss Pet Expo which is open to all animals and registrations are welcome on the day. The winners will be crowned at 11.30am.
The second annual Small Paws Sprint (for dogs under 30cm) will also be a highlight as well as two races of the very popular Dachshund Dash and the prison dog display.
The Allsorts Pet Hub (Fit With Fido) session is an opportunity to exercise with your dog at 9.40am and again at 12.40pm.
More than 90 pet-related exhibitors will be there, including animal behaviourists, groomers, vets, and photographers and there are heaps of prizes to be won.
Residents will also have the opportunity to speak to registered dog breeders and trainers.
Community Health and Environment Committee chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the event was a great opportunity to mingle with like-minded animal lovers.
“The Pet Expo is always a very popular day and a chance to bring your animal along, talk to experts and share information and tips,” Cr Greaney said.
“Townsville has more than 37,000 registered dogs and 6000 cats, so it’s certainly a city of pet enthusiasts.”
The Pet Expo will be on at Jezzine Barracks on Sunday, June 18 from 9am to 3pm. Entry is free and all pets are welcome.
